XCOM 2 will be making its way to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this year. The popular sci-fi turn based strategy game will be hitting consoles on September 6th following its successful PC launch at the beginning of the year.
Developers Firaxis, have partnered with developer The Workshop to port the game to consoles after its predecessor was well received on the previous gen consoles.
Jake Solomon, creative director of XCOM 2 had the following to say on the PlayStation Blog page:
“The incredible reception of XCOM 2 has been rewarding and humbling for the team, and we’ve known console fans have been clamoring to play the game too. As avid console players ourselves, we’re excited to work with The Workshop to bring XCOM 2 to all of our fans.”
For those who missed the franchise, XCOM is set in the near future when Aliens have invaded Earth. You are in charge of an elite multinational paramilitary organization called XCOM, put together to defend Earth. The player uses turn based tactical missions to command troops and can use the time between missions to research and develop new technologies from captured prisoners and recovered tech. The sequel is set 20 years later and XCOM have lost the war and are now a resistance force against the Aliens that now occupy Earth.
