CD Projekt Red have closed the door on a The Witcher 3 PS4 Pro patch, claiming they need to focus on their next game.

Eurogamer have reported that The Witcher 3 will not be receiving an update for Sony’s upcoming console; the PlayStation 4 Pro. Robert Purchese of Eurogamer reported that CD Projekt Red had told him:

“Since we want to fully focus on Cyberpunk 2077 and Gwent [standalone game], and converting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from a full HD game into a 4K one [on console] would be too much of a time and resource-consuming process, we decided not to release an edition of Wild Hunt supporting the new features of PlayStation Pro”.

Some of you may have noticed that the above quote says [on console]. Purchese states that the reason for this is because The Witcher 3 already supports 4K on PC. This may raise the question of why the game will not be receiving a 4k patch. Can it be that hard? Digital Foundry’s Tom Morgan explained “Showing everything at 4K resolution is one half of the problem. You need a good-looking world too, to hold up to scrutiny at 4K.” This is due to the fact that many graphical factors, such as textures and shadows are naturally higher on PC.

It is possible that in the future at some point that The Witcher 3 may get a PS4 Pro update, but the entire time CD Projekt Red are focusing on Cyberpunk 2077 this won’t happen. However with CD Projekt Red seemingly finished with the game, a patch seems unlikely to me. Would you like a patch for a PS4 Pro update of The Witcher 3? Let us know in the comments below!
