Some of the veteran developers behind World of Warcraft and League of Legends have announced the formation of Frostkeep Studios, a new independent studio. This news also comes with the announcement of Rend, a new online game set for early access this spring.
Frostkeep studios was created by Solomon Lee, Mat Milizia and Jeremy Wood who all worked together on the original World of Warcraft and have recruited a range of developers to work on Rend.
Solomon Lee described the studio in more detail:
“Frostkeep Studios is what we dreamed making games would be like as kids – we are pushing boundaries, and putting players and the love of the game at the focal point of every decision we make. Our goal is to deliver rich, compelling experiences where players truly get a voice in the discussion and shaping of the games we are making.”
Rend has been described as a hybrid fantasy survival game with RPG elements and other mechanics that have not been previously seen in other titles in the genre. Players will align with one of three factions before entering a brutal world where it is necessary to team up with other players and friends to tackle other factions as well as native creatures.
Mat Milizia further described the upcoming title:
“With our first game Rend, we are delivering on the fantasy players expect from a survival game while also challenging the traditional mold by introducing new experiences and solving many of the genre’s accepted player pain points.”
Rend will be coming to Steam in the Spring and those interested can visit the official Steam Page.
