Bandai Namco have revealed that Tekken X Street Fighter is no longer in active development. The fighter was due to be a crossover that continues the 3D style of the Tekken franchise, as Namco did with their 2D styled version, Street Fighter X Tekken.
In an interview with GameSpot, Tekken Director Katsuhiro Harada has stated that releasing the crossover now could fracture the audiences of both franchises. He explained,” Currently the situation is with fighting games, you have Street Fighter V that just released–a lot of people are playing that fervently–and there’s a large crowd out there waiting or Tekken 7.” He added, “We don’t want to split these communities, so a good window in which to release Tekken x Street Fighter is something that’s become difficult recently. So it’s on hold for the moment.” This seems to indicate that the game has not been cancelled completely, but is on hold for the foreseeable future.
With the success of Bandai Namco’s other collaboration, Pokken Tournament, this news is sure to disappoint fans of both the Tekken and Street Fighter franchises.
