News from a recent preview event for 1-2 Switch at the Nintendo World NYC store, suggests that digital purchases will not be shareable across multiple Nintendo Switch systems. Recently we found out that that eShop purchases will be linked to an online account, however, it seems this does not extend to downloading Switch games across multiple systems.
This would be a big difference between Nintendo and their gaming console competitors Sony and Microsoft. As, these will allow you to play your games across multiple consoles – as long as you login and verify your ID on a system, and only one person is logged into that account at one time.
This news came from a questions-and-answer session included at the event – which was captured by CrazyDopetastic. A member of the audience, brought this up when asking about purchasing a second Switch for his children, he asked;
“If I were to buy a digital game, could I buy it once, or would I have to buy it multiple times so they can use those games?”
The translated answer from Shinya Takahashi (Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development General Manager) was;
“Currently we don’t have a system like that in place for Nintendo Switch, but we haven’t made any final decisions about how we would approach that going forward in the future, so unfortunately I can’t provide any concrete answer for you right now.”
Making it sound like a Nintendo Account and it’s eShop purchases can only be linked to one Switch system at a time – if nothing was lost in the translation.
