Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn Free For Some Switch Owners

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Do you own a Nintendo Switch? Do you own a copy of NBA Playgrounds? It sure would be nice to play that game online right? You know what else is nice, free stuff. As a way of an apology, publisher Saber Interactive have announced that anyone who bought NBA Playgrounds on the Switch will receive a free copy of Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn. Great news right. Right? Let’s watch the Trailer and see for ourselves.

Let’s talk a bit about Shaq-Fu.

Released in 1994 for the Genesis and Super NES and later to Game Gear, Game Boy and Amiga platforms in 1995, Shaq-Fu was a 2d beat-em up starring NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. In the game Shaq teleports to another dimension to save a boy named Nezu from an evil mummy named Sett Ra. All pretty standard stuff for 90’s video games really. It played like Mortal Kombat and looked like Streets of Rage, two of the eras shinning examples of perfection. One problem. It was awful. Famously bad. Some said it was the worst game of all time. Still excited about that free copy?

Fast forward to 2014 and boom, it’s announced that Shaq-Fu is getting a sequel. Set for release later this year on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch and it promises to be “Better than the last one.” Not a massive incentive to invest in a copy but it does like a bit of mindless fun in the trailer. Punching and kicking the granny out of swarms of enemies, collecting power ups, and defeating whatever stands in your way. It seems like a perfect fit for the Switch.

Here’s what Saber Interactive’s CEO Matthew Karch had to say about giving it away for free:

“We had every intention of launching online play for NBA Playgrounds on Nintendo Switch within days of release, but, despite our best efforts, it didn’t play out that way. We sincerely apologize for the delay and want to let everyone know the fix will be coming very soon. But words are cheap, and games are not. So we’re giving everyone that bought NBA Playgrounds on Nintendo Switch before the online play patch hits a free copy of Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn on Switch this fall to express our gratitude.”

So there you have it, Are you excited about Shaq-Fu returning? Are you eligible for a free copy? Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on Twitter, just stay out of the DMs you deviants.
