Ubisoft have announced that Sam Fisher, the legendary covert operative of the Splinter Cell series, will be joining Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands for a special mission.
Fisher will join as part of Special Operation I, the first major update of the second year of the game’s release. As a further part of the 2 year celebration, Ghost Recon Wildlands will be free to play this weekend on all platforms, meaning everyone can enjoy Sam Fisher’s return from the 12th to the 15th April. The free weekend will will give newcomers the opportunity to try out everything, including Special Operation I, Predator mission and Ghost War PvP mode.
From April 10th, further Splinter Cell content will also be introduced into the Ghost Recon Wildlands main game and the Ghost War PvP mode. This content includes a new PvE mission, exclusive customisation items and a new class for Ghost War PvP. Players will fight alongside Sam Fisher in an infiltration mission set in a future Bolivia. The challenge is available solo or cooperatively with up to four players and will require solid teamwork to succeed. Upon completion of the mission, players will be awarded with exclusive items such as Sam’s iconic sonar goggles and a new night-vision filter to go with them. As well as earning rewards, players can also arm their Ghosts with the Splinter Cell Gear Pack which will include new customisation items and a plethora of weapons including Karambit Knife – inspired by Splinter Cell Blacklist, or the fully customisable SC 4000 prototype Splinter Cell assault rifle.
Nouredine Abboud, Senior Producer at Ubisoft had some words about the crossover:
“We are all super excited to bring such an iconic character as Sam Fisher into Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. Teaming up with Sam Fisher will require the Ghosts’ stealth, cleverness and tactics…we can’t wait to see the reactions of our players as they face this new challenge!”
Special Operation 1 will also bring a new assault class called the Echelon, available in all PvP modes, bringing the number of classes to 18. The Echelon class includes a range of high tech equipment as well as the Sonar Pulse ability which will allow players to see enemies behind walls at close range. The Echelon class will be available early to Ghost War players by using Prestige points or purchase of the Year 2 pass.
