The voice actor behind Leon has said that Resident Evil 7 will be “scaling back” on cameos of classic characters.
Matt Mercer is the current voice actor for Leon Kennedy, a character first introduced in Resident Evil 2. Mercer took over the voice of Leon in Resident Evil 6 and has since appeared in Resident Evil: Revelations 2 and two animated movies, including next year’s Resident Evil: Vendetta.
Mercer told Gamespot:
“As far as 7 goes, I think they’re scaling back a little bit on throwing in all the classic cameos. I can say that I don’t have any involvement in 7 directly.”

Apart from now knowing that it’s unlikely that Leon will make an appearance, nothing much else has been released regarding Resident Evil 7. Thanks to a leak on the ESRB site, we do know the main protagonist will be called Ethan and is looking for his wife in a dilapidated mansion. The leak also mentioned strong language and the use of “pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives, and chainsaws” against mutated creatures although none of this is a particular surprise for the series. This could well change in the final release.
