Kicking off today, Red Bull Homestretch is a twist on the usual racing simulator series that we see. Homestretch promises to be a more “playful take” on virtual races, and will see pros from different racing backgrounds racing with some who have no racing experience at all.
There will be ten racers each week with pros including the likes of Sebastien Loeb, Alexander Rossi, Scott Speed and Timmy Hansen. Pro drivers are being pulled in from all areas of racing including Rallycross, IndyCar and F1. There are a few interesting features about Red Bull Homestretch though.
As this is being conducted at home, the playing field has been levelled. Every driver will be playing on a PS4, playing Gran Turismo Sport. Banter between drivers, and even trash talk, is being encouraged. Rule changes and requirements for winning will be thrown at the drivers mid-race, with fans even able to vote on what the drivers should have to do.
The most interesting feature though is probably the wildcard seat. This seat will be filled each week by “racing outsiders”, such as celebs or musicians. Scott Speed will train the wildcard to help level the playing field a tad. Week 1’s wildcards are Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff and Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant.
Week 1 of Red Bull Homestretch kicks off today at 5pm BST. You can watch the stream live on Red Bull Motorsports Youtube, Twitch or on Red Bull TV. For those who are fans of racing, this is sure to make for some much-needed laughs. Those of you who aren’t racing fans, are the wildcards enough to get you to watch depending who they are?
