Last year saw Resident Evil fans holding their breath. It had been announced that a group of Resident Evil fans were remaking Resident Evil 2, in HD, and Resident Evil fans waited for to see whether Capcom approved of the project. What Capcom did instead was announce they instead would be making the Resident Evil 2 remake.
Speaking in an interview with VideoGamer, the producer of the Resident Evil 2 remake had a fair amount to say about the game. Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said to VideoGame his team is currently “working hard on the game at the moment and there are some reasons why I think we can recapture the spirit of the first game”. He added:
“Resident Evil 2 was the first Resident Evil I played. Everyone’s experience is different but I remember how it felt to play it for the first time, and the task of bringing that to the fans all over again is a cause of daily headaches for me (laughs). Work is progressing on the game and all I can do is ask the fans to wait patiently and excited.”
Of course this is a remake, not a remaster. With that comes the possibility of change. It is currently unknown whether this remake will feature the original’s fixed camera angles or the use the view from the later games. Other changes to the remake are also currently unknown. But worry not, Hirabayashi has said he has learned from the feedback of Resident Evil 6.
“Every title brings with it learning experiences,” he added, “and of course I saw a lot of the feedback on Resident Evil 6 and have taken on board everything I’ve heard from the fans about the game and I want to show you what it taught me with through the next experience I’ll be bringing to you.”
A lot is still unknown about this remake, but I think this is what will divide people? What changes would you like to see? Would you like to see any changes? Let us know in the comments below.
