The Pokémon Company International announced that a first look at Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon will air this weekend on the UK.

The first two episodes of the upcoming season will air this Sunday 20th on CITV, following the debut of Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel on Saturday. This new animation will take place in the Hawaiian inspired Alola region introduced in the games, featuring a new generation of Pokémon as well as Alola variants of the existing ones.

Ash will no longer travel from region to region, instead the series will depict him assisting to school with the goal of graduating. The new series will accompany the release of the games on November 23 and will also feature the Z-moves during battle.

The preview announcement was made with a dubbed trailer that has a noticeable epic tone contrasting with the more lighthearted Japanese trailer:

The new art style of the series has been subject of controversy among the fans that dislike Ash’s new appearance in the promotional images. Several aspects of his redesign have been criticized, from his younger looks to the fact he no longer wears gloves. With his silly expressions being in the spotlight.

But the initial reactions after the Japanese premiere on November 17 suggest that the new art direction fits well with the anime’s lighthearted and comedic setting.
