As of February 3, the people selected for PlayStations system update beta program is going to get an early sneak peek of the some of the features coming to the PS4 with the next major system software update, codenamed Sasuke. If you signed up and were chosen for the beta, you will get an email with instructions on how to download the beta and get started.
For those not in the beta, you will still be able to get a glance of the big features coming with this update. The user interface is being even more refined, HDD custom wallpapers are also coming.
External HDD Support
It is very easy to do an upgrade with HDD that came with your PlayStation. If you still want some more storage on the console, you can plug a USB 3.0 HDD into your PS4 and that’s it. You will now have more storage on your console.
This is compatible with HDD up to 8Tb. You have the ability to install things directly to the extra storage space. Saved contents are easily managed through the settings menu. All applications that are saved into the external HDD is going to appear in the Content Launcher at the home screen.
Quick Menu Refresh
This update will bring more improvements to make it more accessible. The Quick Meni will now cover less of your screen. You can access the Party features through the Online Friends tab. You can create a new party, invite friends, and join other friends parties without going to the separate Party app.
This highly requested feature has finally arrived! You can now set your favorite screenshots as the background image on your PS4. To help keep the system icons visible, there will be drop-shadows on text, and an option to dim the function area. This will help keep every icon visible if your background of choice is bright.
You can even edit your screenshots using the Photo Mode in ShareFactory to make a custom wallpaper.
Before this update, the notifications were a mixture of tabs. Now all the tabs have been put in a concise list. This makes it easier to see all of your notifications. You can also access the Notification settings from the Options menu to customize your pop-up notification.
Post on PlayStation Network Activity Feeds
You can now post directly to the Activity Feed. Under the What’s New Tab you will now see and option to post text, screenshots, and gifs into the Activity Feed. You can tag games or other players to make sure they sure your post. You can also upload to a Public Activity were players would the world can see your posts.
3D Blu-rays on PlayStation VR
If 3D movies are your thing then this part is for you! You can know view 3D movies in stereoscopic 3D directly on the PSVR.
