Mafia 3 has set a new record for 2K games, shipping 4.5 million copies in its first week. This information was shared with the Washington Post by parent publisher, Take-Two. This number however, does not represent the numbers actually sold to the public, just the numbers sold to retailers.

The impressive number has surpassed records set by some of 2K’s other massive franchises like Borderlands, Bioshock and NBA 2K and Mafia 3 is the “fastest-selling title in 2K Games history.”
Take-Two’s have had huge success with their other division, Rockstar Games, publishes franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead, reporting in 2013 that GTA V made $800 million in its first 24 hours. Take-Two will report earnings for its latest quarter later today and may share more details about the performance of Mafia 3 and its other games.
