October 11th will see the release of The Definitive Edition of Rise of the Tomb Raider Experience, which features a new story chapter, new co-op endurance, limited edition art book, and in-game content honouring the 20 years of the icon that is known as Lara Croft.
As the launch of the game nears, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have announced that players who login and play the game between its release and 18th October 2016 will receive 100,000 in-game credits; these can be used to purchase Expedition Card Packs which become modifiers in the extra game modes, including new Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration content such as Co-op Endurance and “Lara’s Nightmare”. This is being offered as a thank you to the fans who have supported the franchise for days, months, years, and decades (in cases like mine). They have also confirmed this offer is available across all platforms, so no-one will be left out of the chance. Full details can be found on the Tomb Raider Tumblr.
As well as the thank you, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics will be continuing their 20 year Celebration of Tomb Raider, by releasing the 20 Year Celebration challenge. This will see 12 internet icons take on challenges in the ilk of 80s and 90s classic game shows, as they see who can be crowned the ultimate Tomb Raider, and be rewarded the Golden Climbing Axe and win prze money for their favourite charities. The show will be hosted by Jessica Chobot, and include contestants Melonie Mac, Doug Le of Nukem Dukem, Jessica Villarreal, “Atomic” Mari Takahashi, Jake & Logan from team Epiphany, Swiftor, Pamela Horton, Nick Gregorio, Fairlight Excalibur, Peter Paras of GameRevolution, and Malik Forte.
Episode One will launch October 6th 2016, and Episode Two will launch on the 12th October 2016 following the games release. If this sounds like something that is up your street, you can find the teaser trailer at challenge.tombraider.com.
Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration is the most complete experience available and will include Rise of the Tomb Raider, the new story chapter “Blood Ties”, “Lara’s Nightmare” zombie combat mode, PlayStation VR support for “Blood Ties”, co-op Endurance gameplay, an “Extreme Survivor” difficulty, 5 classic Lara skins, and an outfit and weapon inspired by TR III. It also includes all of the previously released downloadable content such as “Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch”, “Cold Darkness Awakened”, 12 outfits, 7 weapons, multiple Expedition Card packs, and more. As mentioned previously this will be released on 11th October on the Playstation 4, but all the new content will be made available on the Xbox One and PC players via the Season Pass.
