Many games will be receiving a free upgrade to next-gen come this fall. A free upgrade makes it so players will not have to purchase another copy of games for their new systems. Unfortunately, Control, IGN’s Game of the Year for 2019, will not be receiving a free upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X.
A new “Ultimate Edition” version of Control will launch for PC via Steam on August 27. On September 10, the Epic Game Store, PS4, and Xbox One versions will be available. You will need this version of the game to play on the next generation of consoles when they launched a couple of months later. Included in the Ultimate Edition is the base game as well as the two expansions. This means if you bought Control today, you would have to re-purchase the game again if you wanted to play on Xbox Series X and PS5.
Remedy had just announced an expansion for the game that includes an Alan Wake tie in which seems exciting. Alan Wake is a game created by Remedy back in 2010. Interestingly, we are seeing a shared universe with other Remedy games. What were your thoughts on Control? What do you think about Control not receiving a free upgrade to Xbox Series X and PS5?
