Code Vein is the new action RPG title from the God Eater team.

This is the new project teased by Bandai Namco last week. In this new action RPG, the player assumes the role of a Revenant looking for lost memories and a way out of this reality.

In the not too distant future, a mysterious disaster has brought collapse to the world, as we know it. Towering skyscrapers, once symbols of prosperity, are now lifeless graves of humanity’s past pierced by the Thorns of Judgment. At the centre of the destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This final stronghold is where the remaining few fight to survive, blessed with Gifts of power in exchange for their memories and a thirst for blood. Give into the bloodlust fully and risk becoming one of the Lost, fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity.

The game will offer a variety of ways to enhance the character through items called Blood Veils and weapons to complement the character’s abilities, which in the game are referred to as Gifts.

Gematsu provided further details of the game’s mechanics, mentioning its Buddy system that allows the player to bring a single partner. According to the official press release, the companion can be picked from the various residents of Vein. They act on their own but there are times when the player will have to help them. Bringing a companion will be helpful to overcome the parts of the game that are too difficult for a single player.

The Blood Veils are equipment that suck the blood of the enemies and also function as armor. Using the Blood Veil successfully in an attack unlocks the special ability called Tempered Blood. This ability has varying effects like strengthening the character, weakening the enemy or performing a direct attack.

Code Vein will be released worldwide on major home consoles in 2018. Gematsu reports the game’s development is 35 percent complete and a gameplay trailer will be released next month.
