Yesterday Capcom announced that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice, the next instalment in the popular courtroom narrative adventure, will be coming this year. It will be released as a digital download for the Nintendo 3DS in Europe and North America in September priced at $29.99 / £24.99 / €29.99, with no word as yet on a physical cartridge release.
Below is a trailer and some screenshots of the new title.
For those who have never played the series before, Phoenix Wright, the titular character, is a lawyer and player must use investigation, evidence, and cross-examination to prove the defendant not guilty. The game is described as a visual novel legal thriller adventure and consists of searching for evidence at crime scenes and interviewing witnesses before moving to the courtroom where players present their case.
The new instalment will see the return of Phoenix Wright, Apollo Justice, Maya and Pearl Fey, Trucy Wright and more as well as a slew of new characters. Player will take control of Phoenix and Apollo with Phoenix following a case to new location, the Kingdom of Khura’in, and Apollo holding the fort at the agency. Along with the supernatural setting, a new gameplay mechanic will be introduced in the form of the Divination Seance, which allows the player to revisit the last moments of a victim’s life.
The game is wildly successful in Japan, with this being the sixth instalment of the main series as well as having a number of spin-off titles, a cross over with Professor Layton, a Manga, a live-action film, soundtrack albums, an anime, a stage play and musical!
