Introducing Nintendo Switch

Nintendo finally announced their next console. The previously codenamed NX is now Nintendo Switch:

The system’s features are as expected from the rumors, a hybrid console that can be used both at home and on the go. The trailer also offers a first look a the docking station and controllers. The Nintendo Switch comes with two small controllers (Joy-Con) that can be attached or detached from the screen, and also can be combined into a single controller using an accessory called Joy-Con Grip. The trailer also shows traditional controllers (Pro) for playing at home.

The last bit of the video also hints at a focus on eSports, which was something previous Nintendo systems were lacking. It seems they have worked on that and after watching this trailer I’m thinking that perhaps the console’s design was thought with eSports in mind and not so much for casual gaming as was the general impression until now.

The press release mentions that, in addition to the Pro controller, people can also bring together their consoles for multiplayer face-to-face competition.

Nintendo also revealed a list of developers and publishers that will support the console:

I've been into video games from a young age. I started with Nintendo and took a liking to RPGs and adventure games that remains to this day. I used to run my own blog where I reviewed retro games I hadn't heard of.
