Hail to the King baby, Duke Nukem is back! Cast your mind back to 1996, what were you doing? Stealing packs of JPS from the cupboard and listening to too much Oasis? Pining over the girl in your Design Technology class? Gelling your hair into an indestructible French crop? No? You was out of nappies though right? Well Duke Nukem was saving the world and on October 11th 2016 we can all party like its 1996 again. Press the Ben Sherman shirt, polish up your Kickers and pass me a bottle of Hooch. COME GET SOME!
Gearbox Software recently announced the news at their “Inside Gearbox Software” panel at Pax West. Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour is about to kick its way through the windows of time and onto PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. You can watch the trailer below.
Not only is it being remastered from “2.5D” into True 3D but it’s also getting a whole host of tasty new goodness. New content includes:
- All new Episode 5, created by original episode designers Allen Blum III and Richard “Levelord” Grey.
- New “Duke Talk” plus rerecordings of the original dialogue from original voice actor, Jon St. John.
- New musical score by original game composer, Lee Jackson.
- New INCINERATOR to roast new “Firefly” enemies.
Basically everyone who made the original so good is back on board and making sure this does justice to the source material. Big boots to fill. The original was a perfect mix of bravado, ingenuity and more one liners than every 80’s action film combined. Duke swaggered through levels with effortless cool that only comes from constantly wearing sunglasses. He threw the beat down in the day and cash at strippers in the night. Duke was a slice of nineties culture that, even though it’s not something that I find acceptable today, as a 14 boy I had nothing but love for. Pre orders are available from Gearboxs website.
