Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot, confirmed the movie adaptation of The Division is in production.
After the lukewarm reception of Assassin’s Creed’s film adaptation, Ubisoft Motion Pictures is still invested in bringing more of their IPs into film. In August of 2016, Ubisoft announced The Division was going to be adapted into film with the lead actors, Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal, taking an active role in the film’s development through their production companies, Freckle Films and Nine Stories.
The movie has since found a writer and director, a few weeks ago Ubisoft announced Stephen Gaghan is taking on both roles for the upcoming film. Further confirmation came during the company’s latest earnings briefing where Yves Guillemot commented the movie is “well on the way in its first phases.”
Tom Clancy’s The Division is set in a post-apocalyptic New York plunged into chaos after a provoked virus outbreak where a group of government agents known as The Division are tasked with restoring order to the city.
There’s no official information on the script or how close it will be to the game’s plot, but the movie is expected to premier in 2018.
