Animation Throwdown: the Quest for Cards is a new mobile game for Android and iOS that brings together animated heavyweights in a battle of cards. The game includes 5 franchises, bringing a range of beloved characters from Family guy, Futurama, King of the Hill, American Dad and my personal favourite, Bob’s Burgers.
The game is published by GameStop subsidiary Kongregate and is a collectible card game as the title suggests. Players pick a franchise and battle against either AI or other players with the aim of beating down their defence using cards (or combination cards) with better stats. The game plays similarly to other card based battlers like Gwent and Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft.
There are over 460 cards to collect in Animation Throwdown and a further 300 combos that can be created by playing compatible cards. The campaign has 25 chapters that takes you to locations from each of the franchises and there is a PVP arena to take on other players.
There is a noticeable lack of Fox’s biggest series, The Simpsons but this is likely due to the fact that they already have a hugely successful title of their own, The Simpsons: Tapped Out.
Animation Throwdown is available now for free on both the iTunes and Google Play but be warned before letting younger players loose, the game has some risqué content and does contain in-app purchases. The in-app purchases can however be turned off in the settings.
