Chinese cracking group 3DM have revealed that they believe by 2018 PC games will have anti-piracy measures so advanced that they can’t be pirated.
The group have posted on their forum that attempts to crack Just Cause 3 are currently being unsuccessful as the game’s anti-piracy are proving difficult to break through. The group feel the game can be cracked eventually, but are currently not optimistic.
“I still believe that this game can be compromised,” Bird Sister said in the blog post (via TorrentFreak). “But according to current trends in the development of encryption technology, in two years time I’m afraid there will be no free games to play in the world.”
Just Cause 3 uses Denuvo, an encryption system that adds to the game’s own anti-piracy measures. Dragon Age Inquisition used Denuvo and took a month to crack.
Only time will tell the future of video game pirating. As technology against pirates evolves, so does the technology the pirates use.
