The Witness Is Being Pirated Too Much

Jonathan Blow, creator of The Witness and much loved game Braid, has claimed that the rate at which The Witness is being pirated could mean that another game cannot be developed.

The Witness is a beautiful looking game, and one that has been added to my list of games to play.

Blow took to Twitter in a series of tweets to inform us that The Witness is the number one on a certain popular torrent site. Blow went on to say that he is happy the game will reach more people, but this level of piracy means that Blow (being an independent developer) will be unable to make another similar game.

Users of Twitter attempted to make heads and tails of the piracy, claiming that the game’s £30 price tag and a lack of a demo for the game may have been a contributing factor. Blow defended this by stating that his previous game Braid was cheaper and had a demo but was pirated just as much.

Blow went on to say that his next game may use anti-tampering technology Denuvo, but currently isn’t sure of what to do.
